Description | Rosuvastatin, also known as creston or ZD-4522, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phenylpyrimidines. These are polycyclic aromatic compounds containing a benzene ring linked to a pyrimidine ring through a CC or CN bond. Pyrimidine is a 6-membered ring consisting of four carbon atoms and two nitrogen centers at the 1- and 3- ring positions. A dihydroxy monocarboxylic acid that is (6E)-7-{4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2--6-(propan-2-yl)pyrimidin-5-yl} hept-6-enoic acid carrying two hydroxy substituents at positions 3 and 5 (the 3R,5S-diastereomer). Rosuvastatin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). In humans, rosuvastatin is involved in rosuvastatin action pathway. Rosuvastatin is a potentially toxic compound. |
