Description | 7alpha-Hydroxy-3-oxo-4-cholestenoate, also known as 7-Hoca, is a member of the class of compounds known as monohydroxy bile acids, alcohols, and derivatives. Thes compounds are bile acids, alcohols, or any of their derivatives bearing a hydroxyl group. 7alpha-Hydroxy-3-oxo-4-cholestenoate is practically insoluble (in water) and a weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). 7alpha-Hydroxy-3-oxo-4-cholestenoate is involved in metabolic disorders such as 27-hydroxylase deficiency, familial hypercholanemia (FHCA), and Zellweger syndrome. 7alpha-Hydroxy-3-oxo-4-cholestenoate is involved in the primary bile acid biosynthesis pathway. 7alpha-Hydroxy-3-oxo-4-cholestenoate is created from either 3beta,7alpha-dihydroxy-5-cholestenoate or 7alpha,26-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one through the actions of HSD3B7 (EC 1.1.1.181) or CYP27A (EC 1.14.13.15), respectively. |
